Fayoum House
The adobe house was designed to fulfill an Egyptian-French family dream of having a country house in Tunis village, Fayoum. The design concept is based on using natural materials and forming intimate as well as functioning living spaces, with a respect to the environment and the nature of the village. whether in summer or in winter, thick adobe walls, high ceiling, mezzanine working as an air shaft and an inner court balance together the temperature of the house
The roofing of the bearing wall structure integrated the reuse of wooden beams from demolished traditional buildings. Local materials such as stones coming from Fayoum quarries, were used in the flooring and cladding. The project was implemented by Tunis local labor, under the supervision of Ahmed Abdallah, a well known builder in the village. In October 2015, the house was featured in “Al-beit’ Magazine, issue 184.
